Celebrating the life of
Patsy Eugene (Jean) Lamson
Passed away on February 12, 2024
It was once written that death is not the end of life: rather it is simply like blowing out a small candle because the dawn has finally emerged with its brilliant natural light, encompassing warmth, and the belief of a beautiful day to come.
And so the bright light of morning has finally come for our beloved Patsy Eugene “Jean” Lamson who slipped away quietly on the afternoon of February 12, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 86 years old.
The Lamson children, rich in the faith passed on to them by their parents, celebrate her death secure in knowing that she is in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior and released from the darkness of Alzheimer’s which surrounded her in her later years.
Jean Lamson was born in Greenville, SC but was raised in Savannah, Georgia where she met the love of her life, Francis William “Lou” Lamson. The military took them around the world including Germany and New Foundland but they returned to Savannah to raise their family. Following Lou’s sudden death at 52 years old, Jean, a dedicated mother of four, was forced back into the job market to support her family. First, she turned to her best friend Carolyn Thomson and began working at her friend’s flower shop, Ramelle’s Florist, and then trained to work with the IRS. Upon retirement, she spent her time serving as a Lay Carmelite in the Lay Carmelite Order of Savannah. She attended daily Mass at St. James Catholic Church and was involved in many activities. But most of all, Jean lived her life dedicated to serving God, her family, and all those the Lord entrusted to her care.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Juanita Taylor and Ansel Elbert (“Shorty”) Hand, her loving husband, Lou Lamson, and one grandson, James Waters. Jean leaves behind her children: Michael (Tina) Lamson of Richmond Hill, GA, David Lamson, Frank (Angela) Lamson, and Carolyn Larson all of Savannah. Also surviving are her dear grandchildren Kenny Lamson and Michael (Erin) Todd of Savannah, Jason (Jordan) Lamson of Naples, FL, and Seth and Zachary Lamson also of Savannah. And, finally, Jean’s legacy also includes two precious great grandchildren: Teagan and Brooklyn Todd. Survivors also include a brother Earl (Mala) Hand from Augusta, GA and many devoted nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to celebrate Jean’s new life, promised by the Lord, at a visitation to be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson-Memorial Chapel, on Monday, February 19th from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 p.m. The Rite of Christian Burial (Mass) will be held later in the day on Monday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenwich Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and two nephews: Kenny Lamson, Michael Todd, Jason Lamson, Seth Lamson, Zachary Lamson, Robbie McGalliard, and Tanner Thomson.
While flowers are always a beautiful reminder of Jean and her sunny disposition, family and friends may also consider a donation in Jean’s memory to the Carmelite Monastery (11 W. Back Street, Savannah, GA 31419) or St. James Catholic Church (8412 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406).
Those who love and miss Jean celebrate that, at last, Jean knows who she is for eternity: a beloved child of the Father. The words of Corinthians 15:42-44 remind us: “So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.”
